Miracles on 104th Street

104th and Fifth Avenue, New York City

On Saturday, June 18th, Mano a Mano produced a workshop and photo booth at this street fair sponsored by the Museum of the City of New York, El Museo del Barrio and the City of New York, Department of Parks and Recreation and presented by JPMorganChase.

Our workshop, led by Aurelia Fernández Marure, took the theme of Miracles to teach a hands-on session on Mexican milagros (miracles in Spanish), folk paintings which are made in thanks for help out of difficulty, received from a friend, family member or divine source.

In addition, Mano a Mano presented a photo booth where visitors took each others photographs with life-sized Mexican cut-outs, painted by Alejandro Esquiliano.

Suspenso del Norte, the norteño band, played a lively musical set with Calpulli Mexican Dance joining them for one number.
