On Sunday, June 25,  Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders, the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the Central Park Conservancy will present Fandango de Tortugas: A Turtle Celebration honoring the wildlife of New York and Veracruz, Mexico (located on the eastern Gulf Coast), in an afternoon of song, dance, live turtle encounters, nature walks and a discussion on the bio-challenges to the turtles of our region and their counterparts south of the border. A fun-filled and informative event for the whole family!

This four-hour public presentation at Belvedere Castle/Turtle Pond in Central Park focuses on the state of Veracruz, Mexico –its fauna and rich cultural traditions – drawing parallels to the City of New York.. We will focus on the fresh-water turtles of Veracruz and New York and the music and dance traditions of son jarocho and the zapateado.
